Definitely Judge my Book by its Cover!
Check out this stunning, human-designed cover for my first novel, "Death Wounds!"
Whenever I ask someone, "How’s life?” and they respond, “Busy!” it bugs me. I know it shouldn’t, as it’s just one of those quick answers one gives without much thought. “Busy” falls in the same category as “fine” in response to “How are you?” But when someone tells me they’re busy, it always makes me think the subtext is really, “I am busy doing things I hate and I don’t know how to stop, and I see no light at the end of the tunnel.” Maybe they are actually loving their busyness, but my mind always assumes otherwise.
So, it is with great hesitation that I tell you that I have been very, very busy lately! 🤣But, before you judge (like I do!) let me point out that it is the happy kind of busy. I have been busy enjoying several months on a boat in Spain with my beloveds and now I am busy back in our mountain sanctuary in New Mexico preparing for the launch of my first novel, Death Wounds. Plus, I was busy attending and speaking at the Author Nation conference in Las Vegas. And, of course, now we are all busy preparing for the winter holidays.
Gratefully, I’m not the only one that has been happy-busy lately. In the run up to the book launch, my support crew has been busy too. From beta reading (thank you to everyone who signed up for that!), to auditioning voice actors for the audiobook, to developing an ad campaign, to line editing and formatting, to building an ARC readers team (readers who get an advanced review copy and promise to give an honest review during launch week… more on that soon, I promise), to creating the book’s cover, the work of getting a self-published book ready for launch has been, well, busy.
Today, I wanted to show you one amazing result of that busyness, Death Wounds’ cover by Jacqueline Sweet:
I know I am biased, but I think it is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen for a conspiracy thriller! I love the way she captured the theme of the book visually.
Here’s what the back looks like:

As for me, every time I look at the cover I think, “Wow! This is actually happening!” and I get butterflies in my stomach.
Thanks for coming along for the ride!

I love the colors and the way the microphone looks a little bit menacing (like a weapon?) on the cover!
